Winter Camping

Postby Doop » Thu Jun 11, 2009 7:51 pm

Hello....my buddies and I were contemplating a winter camping (tent) trip to somewhere remote up north...where we could do some late season northern pike fishing. Never camped in the winter but we are wanting to give it a go.

Not sure on a destination....but just looking for some general advice to get us started. :)
Be happy with what you have because at one time it was exactly what you wanted!

You could drive in to the end of the Arrowhead Trail, and then snowshoe across McFarland Lake to Pine Lake, and camp and fish there... or you could snowshoe the Border Route Trail west from there and hitch up to the East Pike Lake portage and camp/fish on East Pike.

Doop,

I think we've been here before, but Basswood always a possibility. A couple of other destinations out of Ely would be either Ensign or Disappointment. Not terrible trips but a ways back and both can be good for pike.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
