My 17-year-old daughter is planning a trip to BWCA this July with 3 or 4 friends, without adult supervision. She's a smart, level-headed kid in good physical condition who has been on BWCA trips with church groups, etc. the past four summers, and she thinks she's experienced enough to lead a small expedition herself. The friends who'd be going with her are about the same age, but are less experienced at camping/canoeing. Her mother and I didn't tell her she couldn't, so she's gone ahead and started making plans, but as it gets closer we're starting to worry about the potential dangers and are wondering if we should veto the plan.
Are we crazy to send a group of girls alone into the wilderness? Or are the risks/dangers so minimal that we shouldn't be overly worried about it? Parents, would you let your daughter go into the BWCA under these circumstances?
